Guestbook Entries for MAY 2004
Wow, amazing site! Don't know how you do it all on your own. The presentation, design, artwork, all the code and hard work behind the scenes that we all take for granted. I can understand why you're struggling with the updates. On top of which, I hear that you personally built and maintain your own HTTP and email servers! Now that's putting it over the top for a single person. Nice job. I certainly know what goes into making a website work and you make it work well. Two thumbs up!

My family and I would like to thank all the people involved with the arduous task of arranging, funding and legislative support to refurbish and rededicate the Gene Gray Park, who was my father.
I look forward to bringing my children down to the Channel this summer to see the new equipment and make a small connection to their grandfather as well as my hometown.
Again, thank you to all.
The annual meeting of the United Community Organization of Broad Channel will be held on Thursday May 20th @ the American Legion Hall 8:15 pm. All land owners should have received notice in the mail the week of May 3rd.
Like everyone else I would like to thank Dave for all his hard work and I'm sure we all realize how time consuming it is. I sincerely appreciate all his hard work. Having been out of the Channel for so long its a great pick me up.
The Reunion in the Keys was fantastic. Of course we all missed "Bill Mauro". It was so relaxing and especially wonderful to see some new faces like Pat O'Gara and Carol Condon with Janet O'Hare. So glad you'all made it. Already I'm looking forward to it. My sister Joan (Laverty) Rafferty and her husband George welcomed many more this year and hope next year is even better.
Rafferty's open their home every year to "BC" and they only hope more will feel welcomed. What a spread for "Brunch" and the Shamrock Birthday cake. Have seen some pictures but hope George and Tom Brown will send some to the Guestbook. Both Buster and I enjoyed ourselves beyond measure. Here's to next year!
I was so happy I found the time to visit this site again. I enoyed Billy's Channel Chat.
Rabbit, you need to get someone to update the Yacht Club's Event Calendar. Lol
P.S. Shall we dance?

Whitey,
Horny Harry Harper and Fay divorced years ago. He has become the Sanford and Son of the 21st century and remarried. I believe he is still on Crossbay Blvd between 12th and 13th road on the east side but that could have changed. He has had his house up for sale in the past, maybe Dave can locate him for you through his Aunt Margaret, the Real Estate Guru of B.C.

Shouldn't those advertising drinking events be 21 years old???
And by the way... Fred Grey is from Rockaway...Shouldn't the Mayor of Broad Channel actually be FROM Broad Channel??
HMMMMMMM......

I was born in Rockaway Beach Hospital and raised in Broad Channel until I was eleven. My parents grew up there. Rhoda Bruntel Welker and Henry Welker. My father's parents also lived there for most of their lives --Henry and Margaret (Dunne)Welker. I loved living there and missed it constantly after moving to LI. I live in CT now and still often think about my childhood friends. Getrude Warner, Kathleen Monahan(mother Madelein "Sissy" Carey), Bobby Guerra, Stephen Bahr (spellings may be wrong)cousin,Michael Dunne etc. My Godmother Marie (Mary)Lindeborg. It was a fabulous place to grow up in the 40's. I went to PS 47 and had Mrs. Byron for 4 years, I well remember her screaming at us. It was only 4 rooms with two cloakrooms. Stephen Bahr's father owned the delicatessen on the blvd.We had a dinghy and Lightling sail boat which my father raced. It was a tight knit community and a caring one.
HEY, WHAT'S UP BROAD CHANNEL. I WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE KNOWS WHO LIVES AT 111 EAST 8TH STREET. MY GRANDFATHER USED TO OWN THAT HOUSE AND I WAS WONDERING IF I STILL HAD ANY FAMILY UP THERE. I AM COMING TO N.Y. IN JUNE AND WANTED TO CHECK OUT THE NEIGHBORHOOD FOR OLD TIMES SAKE. MY GRANDFATHER WAS KNOWN AS UNCLE CHARLIE TO ALOT OF THE OLD RESIDENTS (MANY YEARS AGO).
THANKS
TO CONCERNED BC RESIDENT:
IF YOU HAVE SUCH A PROBLEM WITH AN OUT OF TOWN PERSON RUNNING FOR MARDI GRAS, STEP UP TO THE PLATE AND HELP THE DEPARTMENT OUT. AS SOMEONE WHO HAS GIVEN UP HER SUMMERS TO SUPPORT THE MARDI GRAS IT IS NOT AN EASY THING TO DO!!! THE FACT THAT HE AND HIS COMMITTEE STEPPED UP AND VOLUNTEERED IS HUGE!! FROM THE PERSON TAKING CARE OF THE FIREHOUSE'S FINANCES I DON'T CARE WHERE HE LIVES!!! IT'S A SHAME THAT PEOPLE THAT ALREADY VOLUNTEER THEIR TIME BY BEING MEMBERS OF THE DEPARTMENT ALSO HAVE TO RUN FOR MARDI GRAS BECAUSE NO ONE ELSE WOULD STEP UP FOR GRASSY'S.
ON A SEPARATE NOTE A SPECIAL THANKS GOES TO NOT ONLY THE GRASSY'S COMM. BUT ALSO THE GIRLS RUNNING OUT OF DUFFY'S.
I ASK EVERYONE IN BC TO PLEASE SHOW YOUR SUPPORT TO BOTH OF THESE COMMITTEES AS WELL AS BABY FACE AND MOST POPULAR PET!
THANK YOU,
RUTH TRUDDEN

Dear Concerned B.C. Resident, I am a member Athletic for forty years and ran many Mardi Gras in the past. Its a shame the Mardi Gras always gets stepped on by people who do nothing. If you are interested in running for a Mardi Gras position, I am sure the Volunteers would be happy to help you set up your committe. But you must be a big person by signing your name so they can get in touch with you!! Both organizations have enough people complaining all the time, so get off the couch and do something for Mardi Gras!! Last year we had no Mardi Gras and B.C. was a ghost town, so we should be happy whoever runs for any position to help out our Volunteers!! You to can run for Mayor or Queen... the more the merrier!!!!

Hey Channel Surfer, what is it that makes you think congress has anything to do with this site? If you're going to quote the law, know what you're talking about.
To the "Concerned Resident,"
I love the negativity coming out of this community. People like you are the reason that Broad Channel is becoming a town of strangers. It's a damn shame that some of the only individuals stepping up to help out our community are under 21. With all the people that live in this town, you would think someone, somewhere would step up to lend a hand to help out the BCVFD as well as themselves and their neighbors in turn. If you have such a problem with someone who is 20 years old putting a flyer in your mailbox advertising a "drinking event" and posting information in this guestbook, STEP UP AND DO IT YOURSELF. Don't complain unless you are willing to give up your entire summer to volunteer for all the work that is involved in Mardi Gras, there are dozens of people already making the sacrifice, why dont you join them?
How amazing are people!!!!! Some people just can't get enough of picking apart community organizations. The Vollies and the BCAC are not for profit organizations that do a hell of a lot for this small community. We should be happy that we have people like FRED GREY who will give up almost every weekend of his summer just for the sake of the Vollies. Did ya ever do a tour at the fire house or did ya ever coach a team? My suggestion is do it first, get attached to the organization than your outlook will change forever because you will then realize how important these two organizations are to this town!!!
PS Show me another town in this city that host a Sat Nite Football game where the boys play, the girls cheer the stands are full of happy people and just in case the VOLLIES have an ambulance standing by!!!!!! Enough Said I am sure
