Not only is everything about this site great; a big thank you to all who make it happen; but good old B.C. still is pretty great too. No for sale signs at 50 West 13th. This is first visit, my sister, Marie Rooney Synder gave me the info just the other day. I have been living in Texas for the past 33 years. However, I visted Broad Channel in Oct. of 2002.

What a refreshing site. Brings back lots of fond memories of years gone by. I still living on the water in Sea Cliff, NY (can't seem to get the water out of my system.) Henrietta Bowden was the Principal at St. Virgilius from 1971 until 1993. I am wondering if she is still around in Broad Channel? If so, I'd like to hear from her. I knew her from a prior teaching position.

Ahh --Miss Bowden was our principal too. I'm 38 and we all remember that it only took one trip to her office to make you realize you had to buckle down and do the work. She still lives in BC, right near the school, but I don't know if she has a computer. I'll have to ask her next time I see her.

Every year since the mid-1960s I have ridden my bike around nearly every corner of Jamaica Bay. Maybe someone here can tell me about a row of houses that sticks out over the bay on the Rockaway side, just west of the train tracks. I think it is called Barbadoes Walk. The houses on stilts are better maintained that the houses on the surrounding streets. Anyone know what the story is?

The Broad Channel Theatre Group presents the revival of the St. Virgilius Saint Patty's Day Show. Show dates are: March 22 & 23 2003 at the American Legion Hall. Auditions are open to all to come sing,dance,perform a skit or comedy routine,etc. Audition date: Tuesday Feb. 18,2003 times T/B/A Sign UP:Sat. I'm sure many people have fond memories of past shows, I know I do. My mom Peggy Howard did a revival of the St. Patty's Day Show back in the 70's and what a show it was. As a young girl I have very good memories from all the shows i was in and all the GREAT Broad Channel people i met from doing those shows!! I remember my mom working on this show for weeks and always worrying if it was going to come together and it always did. Thanks for the great memories MOM, you were always the Shining Star of the group!!! I wish the Theater Group as much success with the show as my mom had. Unfortunately I won't be there, I have a wedding, but the next generation will be there, Stephanie Wagner.

For those of you wondering how we Broad Channel Island dwellers are doing today: There is no train service, there is no bus service, all the cars are buried, we haven't seen a plow yet and it's still snowing! So we are stuck in for a while but this is a sight to behold! As soon as we can get out we'll take some pictures and post them on the site. Those who weren't off for President's Day are off anyway. Happy Snow Day!!!!

Hi Myron;
In 1992 the city took over the day camp property from Yeshiva Of Flatbush and along with the Broad Channel Athletic Club built some great fields as well as a hockey rink, the the town of Broad Channel raised over $100.000 to get the project completed. Many men and woman spent hundreds of hours building the fields and it was really great for the town. The fields are now being presently restored by the City and soon we will finally have some state of the art ball fields. The project is costing approximately 4 million. I am sure there are plenty of pictures around town, the ones that I have a from 1992 when the camp was in bad shape.

Very well writen article.I agree with what you said, that we need to stop supporting the mideast by buying there oil.I haven't used there gas in year before 9/11.I think that we should just cripple the whole middle east but not takeing there oul at all use our own.
